My memories are hazy as this was 1991 or so when I met Chris Rolling, Alvin Tucker, and Mike Lackey in Annapolis, Maryland. I met them through my sister, Christi, and we all spent a lot of time at 911 Madison, a house in Eastport where artists and musicians were living and hanging out. Keep in mind this is pre-internet, Nirvana had not totally blown up music history yet, and George Bush Sr. had just announced a war in Iraq called Operation Desert Storm. We were Generation X in our early 20s and we were creative and open minded/hearted and I guess at the time we were punk rock or what would become known by later generations as emo or goth or alternative.

I was working my way through college at University of Maryland and living at my parents’ house in Annapolis. I liked the music scene that revolved around 911 Madison because everyone was very smart and free and you could basically be yourself and that was encouraged (See Fall in Love with a Musician). There was a regular poetry reading/open mic/art performance at 911 Madison around then called Dogs of Aesthetic Sodality Convene. I saw Mary Prankster perform there a few times under her real name and she was edgy and brave, a teenage girl singing about abortion and drugs.

Mike Lackey would also sing and play solo and I remember “You’re Living All Over Me” the most. His lyrics were poetic in a Bukowski/Dylan…
